Frequently Asked Questions
When will I get my bottle?
We are planning to ship your bottle by February 2023. We have been building and testing prototypes over the last 2 years and are finally ready to get the finished products out to our customers.
How is it more sustainable?
The Nectr Bottle uses 95 percent less energy in manufacturing than stainless steel water bottles. Making any products from stainless steel requires an incredible amount of energy compared to injection molding bioplastic.
Manufacturing the materials and water bottles in the USA significantly reduces the carbon footprint of each bottle compared to shipping from overseas. We reduced the supply chain distance by sourcing materials in Kansas that are shipped 500 miles to Colorado for manufacturing.
The Nectr Bottle is made from fully compostable, plant-based material that won’t break down into microplastics or other harmful chemicals – making it the most sustainably sourced water bottle in the world.
How is the Easy Cleaning Cap™ better?
Most water bottles have a large amount of bacteria buildup in the base because it’s difficult to get the bottom clean. Some companies sell cleaning kits separately which are expensive inefficient. We made a better bottle that is easier to clean by just removing the Easy Cleaning Cap from the bottom. Now you can get your bottle clean with minimal effort.
Will this create Microplastics?
The bottle is made from plant-based, compostable bio-plastic, hemp fibre, and eco-friendly colorant blended together. We chose these materials in part because they make no microplastic molecules when biodegrading or composting.
Will it keep my water hot or cold?
The Nectr Bottle is highly insulative. Our tests show it keeps ice cold for up to 12 hours in room temperature conditions. That means it will also keep your beverage hot for a long time.
Can I put it in the dishwasher?
The Nectr Bottle is not for dishwasher use.
We have tested it in dishwashers, and it is fine over dozens of cycles, but the dishwasher “soaps” are highly abrasive and will scuff up the outside of the bottle over time. To get the most use of your bottle we suggest handwashing only.
What's the bottle made of?
The Nectr Bottle is made from a plant-based bioplastic material rated ASTM D6400 compostable. This means the material was rated to compost in an industrial composting environment within 90 days.
What is Biodegradable vs Compostable?
Biodegradable is a term thrown around loosely. Technically speaking, everything is “biodegradable” because it will break down into it’s base elements eventually. There is no timeline for products to be considered biodegradable. Even traditional plastics will break down over many decades or thousands of years.
Compostability is a standard with federally and internationally regulated guidelines. For products to be “compostable” they must meet certain standards of rapid biodegradability. In the U.S. the standard limit of compostability is 90 days. This means compostable products must fully break down in a home or industrial composting environment within 90 days to be considered. Some compostable bioplastics break down in as little as 15 days.
It’s important to know landfills are not composting environments. Most compostable products including fruits and vegetables won’t biodegrade easily in a landfill. This happens because the environment is toxic to the good bacteria and microbes that eat the plant matter or bioplastic which break it down rapidly.
How does the “bioplastic” compare to “traditional plastics”?
Traditional plastics are made from petroleum which we know causes significant damage to the environment.
It takes hundreds or thousands of years for petroleum-based products to biodegrade. As they break down into smaller pieces called “microplastics” they infiltrate our water, food, and air. As of 2020 studies, in the U.S. people ingest approximately a credit card worth of microplastics every week. To top it off, petroleum microplastics are found inside the organs and cells of nearly every human on Earth, including placentas of pregnant women.
We don’t yet know the long-lasting negative effects of the buildup of plastics in our environment. We do know they are a great detriment to the health and well-being of our entire ecosystem.
Our Bioplastic
Plant-based Polyesters hold a strong position for the future of bioplastics. With blends of materials we can replace almost any traditional plastic from the rigid, durable ABS to highly flexible elastomers. Our plant-based Polyesters is highly durable, water resistant, chemical resistant, and easy to plug into traditional product manufacturing like injection molding. Although highly durable, these polyesters break down readily in composting environments.
Although bioplastics come from plant-based sources, not all bioplastics are environmentally safe or sustainable.
Because of their renewable, plant-based inputs and ease of manufacturing, plant-based polyesters like the Nectr Bottle materials are being rapidly adopted.
How does it hold up against the elements?
The Nectr Bottle is highly durable. Due to the 6mm thick wall design, the Nectr Bottle is more hardy than other bottles on the market, so you can be confident leaving it out in the elements for an extended period of time. It has been tested up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and handle any conditions you may find yourself in.
The bottle is chemically resistant, food safe, and won’t start to break down unless it’s in a composting environment for more than 30 days.
